Deathtrap at The Lowry ....
Tuesday 16th April 2002. My husband dropped me of at the Lowry in Manchester
to see David Soul perform in Deathtrap. I was meeting up with Robbin Laffoon
from Missouri, Kansas and Debbie (the drum) we met up at 7.00pm and went for a
drink at the bar before taking our seats at 7.25pm. We were lucky to get seats
right at the front so we had a fantastic view of the stage. Music started to
play and David appeared reading a script, looking gorgeous. I won't give the
plot away as there may be some of you who haven't seen the play yet and I
don't want to spoil it. All I will say is that at the interval Debbie, Robbin
and myself sat looking at each other trying to figure out the plot, we thought
we'd worked it out till we sat and watched the second half of the play and we
realized we were nowhere near hahaha. The play is fantastic, it's a play in a
play, in a play if ya get my drift -- with lot's of twists and turns. At one
point David is on stage alone and he is hilarious to say the least, everyone
was laughing yet he hardly spoke a word, his facial expressions are just
awesome.
After the play we decided to go to the bar and it was packed. We managed to
find a sofa to sit on only to see David being interviewed not far from where
we sat. We waited patiently till the interview was over with then Robbin went
to ask who he was being interviewed by, they told her it was TowerFM radio, a
radio station that covers the Bury/ Bolton area (just so happens I live in
that area, lucky me). We said we wouldn't go over to David as he had been busy
all night with the play then the interview. I saw David heading for the bar so
I told Debbie and Robbin that I would just go to the bar and ask him to sign
my programme. As I got near the bar David turned to talk with a couple so I
patiently waited for him, then I pounced hahaha. Just as David picked up his
two pints I asked him if he would please sign my programme, he looked at his
drinks then my programme then to a table and smiled, I told him I would wait
for him to put his drinks down and he told me to come over to his table, I
didn't need a second invite. David sat down and I passed him my programme and
he signed it, while he was signing it Debbie and Robbin joined us and asked
David to sign their programmes too. David asked if I minded if he passed my
programme round the rest of the cast to sign and I said no. David kept looking
at me and I wondered why, then he asked me where I lived ( I couldn't believe
David Soul was asking me where I lived.) I told him I lived in Radcliffe in
between Bury and Bolton so I guess it had something to do with the radio
interview. He then asked me if I had been to the Blackpool showing of
Deathtrap, I told him, "No, I hadn't." Then he said he'd seen me before but
didn't know where. I told him I was at the Fab Cafe the night before with my
brother and then the penny dropped, he said I looked different maybe it's the
lighting (the Fab Cafe is very dark but I had had my hair cut on Tuesday
morning so I guess that's why I looked different but I didn't say that to
David). I asked him if my brother Dale was a pain at the Fab Cafe as he was
following David everywhere but David said, "No, he was cool," so I had to tell
my brother that one and the top his head was swelling hahahaha.
After David had signed our programmes and chatted to us for a little we wished
him luck told him we'd see him again Saturday and left him to his friends and
his beer. We finished our drinks and headed for home looking forward to
Saturday so we could see the play and David again, little did we realize what
was in store for us....
Hugs,
Shelly, xxx still on cloud nine.
