David Soul was born David Richard Solberg in Chicago in 1943.

He became an overnight star with Starsky and Hutch in 1975.

Between 1977 and 1982, he had a string of hit singles including Don't Give Up On Us, Baby. He lives in London.

How much sleep do you need?
Whatever I can get. Usually four or five hours.

How do you feel first thing in the morning?
Not too shabby.

What exercise do you take?
Once in a while I'll get moved to do some exercise. It's something I long for but the biggest problem is bending down and putting my tennis shoes on. Once I go out I'm OK.

Are you careful about what you eat?
Not at all. I like to eat and I love the diversity of foods.

Are you or have you ever been overweight?
I'm not really overweight but I'm not underweight either so I could use a little exercise.

Do you take vitamin and mineral pills?
Not really, although I do take vitamin C. I'm filming Dalziel and Pascoe in Birmingham at the moment so I have to eat vitamin C here. You need your vitamins in Birmingham.

Do you drink or smoke too much?
Oh I smoke, as many as I can. It's one of those deadly things I still enjoy doing.

Do you catch a cold most winters?
No, not at all.

Do you think you suffer from stress?
Yes and no. We all have to find some way to deal with stress or to confront it and find a way to counteract it and balance ourselves.

Have you ever been in hospital?
Yeah, I had back surgery 20 years ago.

Does your job affect your health?
If I don't work it does. It affects my mental health. A job is a very healthy thing to do.

How often do you consult your doctor?
He usually consults me and says: 'I think it's about time you came in for a check-up'.

Do you look after your skin?
Not really. I've got beautiful baby skin.

Are you happy with your body?
I used to be but I didn't take notice of it. It's only when gravity starts to take over you begin to think about your body.

Do you take more care of yourself as the years go by?
I anticipate problems, so in that sense I look after myself a little better than I used to.
