Catch Me I'm Falling

There you were
Walking down the street
A single ray of sunlight passing by
To see who it could be
I held on breath to keep from crying

Catch me I'm falling fast
I hear the music in the air
Catch me I'm falling fast
Love may be blind but I don't care
Catch me I'm falling fast
I want you with me everywhere

Close your eyes
It was the strangest feeling
A shower of emotion over me
On my mind
There's no way to cancel it
There's no way to cancel it
I'll keep on singing till you hear me

Dream With Me

I see you lonely in a lonely room
But we'll be together soon
Although we made us apart
Believe me, tonight there's a place we'll meet
Just close your eyes, you'll see me there inside your heart

Dream with me, dream with me
And I'll be with you, no matter where you’ll be
Dream with me and I'll be dreaming too
Dream with me and I will be with you

I reach out trying to touch your face
But there's only empty space
When you peal on life
I need you, I need you so much tonight
And we can touch tonight if you just close your eyes

Do you feel me in your heart
I can almost hear you breathing
We can't breach the lives but we're pass so easily
Dream with me and I’ll be dreaming too
Dream with me and I will be with you

Dream with me and I'll be dreaming too
If we dream each other's dreams
The way that lovers do
And you'll be with me
And I will be with you

It Sure Brings Out the Love In Your Eyes

It brings a cold shiver inside
Each time I see you looking over your shoulder
Like passing in the shadows of your days with him
(I've tried as much as any man can)
With all that it takes
(And though I know you try to hide it)
For both of our sakes
All the same, every time you hear his name

It sure brings out the love in your eyes
It sure brings out that misty-eyed look about you
I don't know what his memory's got
But it sure brings out the love in your eyes
It sure brings out the feeling there's still some place
You'd much sooner be
And that brings out a sadness in me

It's like I'm left out in the rain
You ought to put yourself in my shoes a moment
That half of you that's with me has to see
(I've got to stop to get the feeling)
You're warming to me
(I've almost got myself believing)
That you 're shaken free
And as I do, his name comes up out of the blue

I've tried as much as any man can
(Do-do do-do do-do do-do).

A Friend Of Mine

Maybe we’ll talk it over
And risk that I might bore her
Hearing that same old tired lie
if she won't believe me
She never lets me know
'(Cause) She's a friend of mine

Though I may be corny
Still she won't ignore me
Laughing and passing the time
If I don't deserve her
She always stays around
To be a friend of mine

She always cries when I bring her home
Some flowers in the evening
Then she smiles for an hour or more
If it seems I'm tired and I'm worry
She'll pretend it never happened before

No I can't deny her
These things I buy her
Spending my last two shiny dimes
May I always be a poor man
Why should I care?
When she's a friend of mine

Yes she is, she's a friend of mine
She's a friend
Yes she is, she's a friend of mine

Wings To Cross The Mountains

Give me wings to cross the mountains
Give me strength to carry on
Let me gaze once more upon my homeland
Where I belong, where I belong,
Oregon

As a young man I left my home searching
For my fortunes and my soul
I took a lift south to California
A thousand miles back to Oregon

Give me shelter for my loved ones
To keep them warm against the rain
Take good care there down across the mountain
Back home again to Oregon

Storm Boy

Wondering by the seashore on your mind
Searching for the pieces of yourself
You hoped to find
Learning as you go
The world is cruel the world is kind
You're living in the eyes of life
Storm boy, storm boy, storm boy

Dreaming about the day you 're gonna spend
Wondering how the morning will begin, the evening end
Learning as you go
The world is hope, the world's a friend
You're living in the eyes of life
Storm boy, storm boy, storm

All you 'll never learn from this life,
Is this boy she’ll wrap you on your head
And then she smiles, then a kiss
Life is a woman, a woman
So keep on down
The seashore on your mind
Picking up the treasures and the pleasures that you find

Remembering as you go
The world is cruel, the world is kind
For every day, it's cold
There's one that's warm
Boy
You're living in the eyes of life
Storm boy, storm boy, storm

Fly to me

('Hold on a little longer, honey')

Your hair is a little longer,
and it's blonder from the sun,
and your clothes are from Paris and L.A.
And you talk as though nobody,
ever saw the world before.
How the things that you need now,
are far away.

It's almost though your mind's erased,
the days you spent with me.
Like there's a part of you that
you're trying to forget.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
don't throw me out completely.
'cause you're flying high,
on a wild reckless sea.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
Don't write us off so easy.
There may become a time you'll
be glad you could fly to me.

The labels on your suitcase,
are from places 'round the world,
but I know you've never even, been abroad.
And the keys you always jangle,
from that keyring for the Porche,
as far as I know, only fit a Ford.

It's only right you should find out,
just who you ought to be.
Maybe when you do,
you'll find some company.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
Don't throw me out completely,
But you're flying high
on a wild and reckless sea.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
don't write us off so easy,
There may become a time you'll
be glad you could fly to me.

I don't mind you tellin' stories,
about the stars you chance to meet.
'cause you're changing
just a little bit every time.

And I know I'd like the lyrics,
that you tried so hard to write,
if you hadn't lost the meaning
for the rhyme.

But I can't take a distant look,
each time it comes to us.
Like there's a part of you,
that you're trying to forget.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
don't throw me out completely,
but you're flying high
on a wild and reckless sea.

Hold on a little longer, honey,
don't write us off so easy,
there may become a time you'll
be glad you could fly to me.

The Child In The World / Narrator: David Soul

Then
Came the biggest test of all...
Could I look at the world as
I look at myself

Could I look at
the pain, pollution and poverty
"out there" as well as
"in here"... and still
love?

Somewhere...
Deep down inside each of us...
the eyes, ears and heart of a child
still remain

Though they may lie dormant... sometimes
When we least expect it, these
sensitivites are awatchened,
and wondrous things take place...

The Child In Me / Narrator: David Soul

Somewhere
Deep down inside each of us...
the eyes, ears, and heart of a child
Still remain

Though they may lie dormant... sometimes
When we least expect it, these
sensitivities are awatcened,
and wondrous things take place

A flower
That we have seen a hundred times before,
suddenly becomes an entirely new visual experience...

The voice
of a loved one that we have
heard every day for years, takes on a whole new vibrancy

A personal
hurt or resentment that we have carried for so long, vanishes...

What is it about a child's perspective
that allows these things to happen?

Why does the world
Always seem fresh and new to them?
Is it possible
for each of us to reawaken that perspective
no matter how old we are?

We begin
to explore these questions
by attempting to reconnect with the source
of that special quality in each of us...
that common ground known as "the Child In Me"

The Child In Transition / Narrator: David Soul

One day
I realized that unless
I learned how to love myself
I would never be able to love anybody else
And so
I began to look at who I was

It was then I discovered that
The Child In Me was
Not only still there...
but that it was only through those eyes,
and with thoses ears
and with that heart
that I could see what and who I truly was...
Because they were the eyes, ears and heart of
Truth...

There came a time
when the Child In Me
was suddenly aware
that someday I would be an adult

I'd think about the things that grown ups do
and wonder... "Will I do things that way too?"

And then
one day, just as suddenly,
I was a grownup

And The
Child In Me was gone..
or so I thought

Sometimes When We Touch

You ask me if I love you I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
But who am I to judge you
On what you say or do ?
I'm only just beginning
To see the real you

For sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die
Till we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till
The fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Lives me battling with my pride
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Some tenderness survives
At times I'm a fighter
Just fighting with my youth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my truth

At times I wanna break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I wanna break through
And hold you endlessly
At times I understand you
I know how hard you try

I've watched while love commands you
I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
And the passion planes again

 The Covered Man

I am the covered man,
People always ask me why I wear a mask
And hide my face,
People always wonder why I always think
That it's a disgrace
I can laugh and I can cry too,
More than other people can,
And that's why I wear a mask
And call myself the covered man
I'm at peace with myself
I'm at peace with my soul
And as long as live
I can reach any goal
I'm the covered man.

Simple Man

I am a simple man
And I sing a simple song
Never been so much in love
I never hurt so bad
At the same time

I am a simple man
And I play a simple tune
Wish that I could see you
Once again across the room
Like the first time

Just wanna hold you
I don't wanna hold you down
I hear what you're sayin'
Spinning my head around
I can't make it alone

The ending of a tale
Is the singing of the song
Make me proud to be your man
Only you can make me strong
Like the last time

Just wanna hold you
I don't wanna hold you down
I hear what you 're sayin'
Spinning my head around
I can't make it alone.

I am a simple man
And I play a simple tune
Wish that I could see you
Once again across the room
Like the first time.

Don't Give Up On Us

Don't give up on us baby
Don't make the wrong seem right
The future isn't just one night
It's written in the moonlight
And painted on the stars
We can't change ours

Don't give up on us baby
We're still worth one more try
And though we put the last one by
Just for a rainy evening
When maybe stars are few
Don't give up on us
I know we can still come through

I nearly lost my head last night
You've got a right to stop believing
There's still a little love left even so

Don't give up on us baby
Lord knows we've come this far
Can't we stay the way we are
The angel and the dreamer
Who sometimes plays the fool
Don't give up on us
I know we can still come through

It's written in the moonlight
And painted on the stars
We can't change ours

Don't give up on us...

Topanga

Patchwork curtains; paisley tweed and rose...
Blowing, stained glass, a song by you
A rooster crows, a rootee-too and a mile far off away,
Cats walking out to see the day

LA on the hills, the sun between them
It's coming up to see, it's coming up to me
There are the hills, Topanga waking up
Waking up to me

A face behind me looking through a screen
Topanga sunrise song by you,
The patchwork curtain mornings of our lives,
And there you are
Bringing us our day in colors

Rocks and trees and streams
Topanga reaching out
It's reaching out to me
Oh, it's reaching out to see
LA on the hills, Topanga waking up
Waking up, waking up to me

Patchwork curtain mornings of our lives
And there you are
Just gettin' up, bringing us our day in colors

Black Bean Soup

All I want is black bean soup
And you to make it with me
Honey won't you
Be my love while love will stay
And wear your ribbons for me

Boil those black beans, honey
Mash them up real well
One big soft tomato
Just a handful of sorrel, well
Cut up your chilly pepper
Squeeze that garlic smell
One mouthful of drippings
A granddaddy onion and well, well, well

All I want...

Well I've been kicked in the head a few times
But that just made me high
I believe in the good things now
You know black bean soup don't lie, lie, lie....

Silver Lady

Tired of drifting searching
Shifting
From town to town
Every time I slip and slide a little
Further down
I can't blame you if you won't
Take me back
After ev'ryting I put you through
But Honey you're my last hope
And who else can I turn to?

Come on Silver Lady take my word
I won't run out on you again
Believe me
Oh I've seen the light
It's just one long fight without you
Here I am a million miles from home
The Indiana wind and rain cut through me
I'm lost and alone
Chilled to the bone
Silver Lady

Double talkers, backstreet walkers
At ev'ry turn
Seedy motels and no star hotels
Till I had to learn
That the one shining thing in my life
Was the sweet love I had with you
And Honey, you 're my last hope
And who else can I turn to?

Can't 't you find it in you to forgive me ?

Rider

Beyond the hills
Beyond the plain of the valley
Beyond another rim
The horse and rider's seen

I am the rider
And the horse is my time
Oh lady, lady wait for me

I am for ever there
Riding at a distance
Hoping to cross to you
Needing to be found

I am in pain, hold me I'm not sane, hold me
I have no name, hold me
Oh oh oh lady, lady wait for me

So see me if you can
The rider is me
And I will try again yes I will
To come to you

The way is strange
And the distance is my life
Oh lady, lady wait for me

I am for ever there
Riding at a distance
Hoping to cross to you
Needing to be found

I am in pain, hold me I'm not sane, hold me
I have no name, hold me
Oh oh oh lady, lady wait for me

Going In With My Eyes Open

You smiled that misty way
And something in me said
Remember the last time don't fall in love
I walked so blindy in
I fell and hurt my head
I can 't forget it but I won 't regret it
I couldn 't even stop it if I tried

Only this time I'm going in with my eyes open
I won 't make the same mistakes again
This time I'll see the signs and no hearts broken
Won't be so blind and loose my way

You 'd be so nice to love
Don't let it end the same
If you get uneasy, just let me know
Don 't lie or call me by
Somebody else's name
I couldn 't take it
I know it would break it
And I wanna give you everything I am.

Mary's Fancy

I remember Mary's Fancy
With painted rugs on veranda floors
And Kit who cooks surprises in the foods
From the Grenadines and Guadeloupe
And the old man sang as he measured the run
And sang in the street band, walking by on the road

Then at night, sometimes afternoons
My visitor would slip through curtained doors
She was far too young
The moon turned gold to bronze
As the afternoons slipped down into the sea

Oh I remember Mary's Fancy
Walking along in sun-dried clothes
From the beach to the town, to the top of the hill
Where ever we went led back to our room
And the sails we watched from our shadowy bed
Flags of ships waiting out in the bay

She was far too young
When the easy rain
Held us prisoner for the night
And what we did in the place was everything
And beauty shed her grace on thee

Mary's Fancy stands there still
An empty shell on a dried out hill
But once together we laughed and wept
Now the memory of my love is kept
Where ships sail into sail away
In a sense she 'll return like another day

And love that made it Mary's Fancy
Love that made it Mary's Fancy - gone.

Can't Afford That Feeling Anymore

I used to wait for you to come alone
Know I was born lonely
You took the only love I ever found
Gave it to another
I don't wanna let you go
But by now, I ought'a know

I can't afford that feeling anymore
To lie and wonder what you do, and who you do it for.
I can't afford that feeling anymore
To know that someone holds the one
That all my love was for
You see, I can't afford that feeling anymore

It's funny that you chose to call today
And tell me that you love me
I thought I'd finally put those thoughts away
And left the past behind me
While in my mind I can see
Just how good it used to be but...

I can't afford that feeling anymore...

Now I know why lonely people do
Anything the night has asked them to
Making love with strangers in regret
Because it helps them to forget

I can't afford that feeling anymore...

How Can You Tell You Got It

I was sailing in the Carribean
When I found myself in Puget Sound
I was never a real good sailor, anyhow
Then I ran into Island Sage
Who told they only give in love
All the people in the tribe get together
And they give it all away

People handing out beads and blankets,
People handin' out food and booze,
People dealin' in carabao, both new and used

Such an unfamiliar sight to see now
Not your customary holiday,
All the people in the tribe get together
And they give it all away
And they say...

How can you tell you got it
If you don't ever give it away?
How can you tell you got it
If you don't ever give it away?
You know, there ain't no doubt about it,
Was a crazy thing to say... (to say)
How can you tell you got it
If you don't ever give it away?

(Hey!... who let him in here?)

Around the corner came an island maiden
Who said some things I could not understand
So I stood here, like a total cretin
With my heart in my hand

She took me walkin' by the foamy water
And we lay beneath a dug-out canoe
She gave me such a good translation
That I gotta pass it on to you
And she said...

(Hey, Louis, come on over here listen to this guy, he's alright)
(Harry, I'm stuck on the phone and the operator won't give me my dime back)
(Ain't Miami Beach a wonderful place?)
How can you tell...

One more time...

How can you tell you got it
(I don't know if I wanna try this one)
If you don't ever give it away?
How can you tell you got it
(Let somebody else take it, here I wanna give it away)
If you don't ever give it away?
(Alright let's go for another one, huh)

(Help!) (Louise?) (Help!)
(Come back here Louis, listen to this guy, they're almost done with the record)
(Now I want you to hear as much as you possibly can, ya know)
(Help!)

You’re A Woman Now

Just lie down and slip oft your shoes
Go on and cry, there's nothing to lose
There's no one to blame, no nobody at all
And the price that you're paying is really quite small
For the freedom you have
You're a woman now

The kids that you miss and the man you once knew
Always expected too much of you
Never a moment of peace lust to think
Finally drove you over the brink
To the freedom you have
You're a woman now

Sure there are days when you sit and you wonder
Am I really right?
You had to get out before you went under
But that doesn't seem to lay
On those long cold nights, when he'd hold you tight
Now the bed seems too empty... the groceries too light

That was the old life, this is the new
You're no one's wife, now there's just you
Mostly it's worth it but once-in-a-while
You can't help remember the way that he'd smile
And you'd wished to yourself there was some other way

You're a woman now

Piper

When all the midnight people come rollin' home,
You can find me siftin' through my dreams
The spirit comes and I can't help but write my songs,
In the only world I know that 's real to me

Hey Jack! Can't you see the writing on the wall?
Make room for the piper

When fast-talkin', fancy people hear my tune,
They say the words are nice but the lyrics seem too strong
So they steam-roll-it and pigeon-hole-it
And sweeten it to hell
But you know I don't take sugar in my songs

Hey Jack! Can 't you see the writing on the wall?
Make room for the piper
Hey Jack! Can't you see the writing on the wall?
Make room for the piper..

Make room for the piper
Room for the piper

If all those midnight people can sing along
There's gotta be somethin' right about what I've done
'Cause it's all over-rated what I wrote
Well, I'm leavin' town if I don't make number one

Hey Jack! Can't you see the writing on the wall?
Make room for the piper
Hey Jack! Can't you see the writing on the wall?
Make room for the piper.

Surrender To Me

You keep coming back to me again and again
I think you wanna love me, but you won't say when
How do I deal with this longing in my heart
As I wait for a sweet love affair to start

Surrender to me
With your heart and soul
Stay by side, my love will keep you whole
Surrender to me, with your own free will
Say you will, say you will

You've got to give me some kind of sign
If I knew how you felt
I'd have more peace of mind
Ain't gonna let you just walk out of my life
If I wind up a fool, Baby, that's all right

Surrender to me...

Say you will, surrender to me
Honey please, surrender to me
Say you will, surrender to me...

Trust Me

I look at this mountain
So many heartaches wide
I can' t help but wonder
Where's the other side?

I've got to be honest
I've got my doubts
These tears are asking me
What's this got to do with love?

Darling, I'll tell you something
To help us through this long dark night

When this trouble passes over
You and I will walk away
Knowing that our love survived
Another test of faith

You and I can't walk on water
The river rises, we rise above
It doesn't look that way right now
Trust me baby
This is love

Love isn't easy
I'm torn, I confess
But a heart is uncertain
It's bound to second guess

This love won't forsake us
So dry your tears I promise you

When this trouble passes over
You and I will walk away
Knowing that our love survived
Another test of faith

You and I can't walk on water
The river rises, we rise above
It may look that way right now
I trust you baby
This is love

Here for you baby
There's nothing I want more
Our day is coming
And we'll reach that peaceful shore

When this trouble passes over
You and I will walk away
Knowing that our love survived
Another test of faith

You and I can't walk on water
The river rises, we rise above
It may look that way right now
Trust me baby
This is love

One more mountain
Hey, so what?
Trust me baby
This is love

Simple Life

Leave a light on
To shine my way home
Leave a light on to shine
On the streets below

Say a prayer for me
So everyone will know
And say a prayer for everyone
On the streets below

Now in this moment of weakness
I come to you
Seeking a place
Where love will last forever

Chorus:

In every heart
There is a vision of a simple life
Another place, another time
In each of us
There are some memories that we keep alive
A simple life - a simple life

There are doors open
There are doors forever closed
The paths are many
Oh sometimes it's hard to know
So leave a light on
So that everyone can see
And let it shine down
Shine down on you
Let it shine down on me

And in the times of darkness
We will be as one
In a place where love will last forever

Repeat Chorus

So say what you will
Say what you will
Say it but you're only asking questions
Say it for me
Say it for me
Say it 'till we understand the meaning
Remembering the feelings of
A simple life

Ain't No Sunshine

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
She's gone much too long
Any time she goes away

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

I know
She's gone to stay
It's breakin' me up
Anytime she goes away
Gotta leave the young thing alone
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's gone much too long
Any time she goes away

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
I wonder if she's gone to stay
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't a home
Any time she goes away

I know
She's gone to stay
It's breaking me up
Any time she goes away
Gotta leave the young thing alone
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
I wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Any time she goes away
Any time she goes away

I've Got You Babe

HER: they say we're young and we don't know we won't find out until we grow
HIM: well I don't know if all that's true 'cause you got me, and baby I got you .
HIM: babe
BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe .
HER: they say our love won't pay the rent before it's earned, our money's all been spent
HIM: I guess that's so, we don't have a pot but at least I'm sure of all the things we got .
HIM: babe
BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe .
HIM: I got flowers in the spring I got you to wear my ring
HER: and when I'm sad, you're a clown and if I get scared, you're always around
HER: so let them say your hair's too long 'cause I don't care, with you I can't go wrong
HIM: then put your little hand in mine there ain't no hill or mountain we can't climb .
HIM: babe
BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe .
HIM: I got you to hold my hand
HER: I got you to understand
HIM: I got you to walk with me
HER: I got you to talk with me
HIM: I got you to kiss goodnight
HER: I got you to hold me tight
HIM: I got you, I won't let go
HER: I got you to love me so .
BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe I got you babe I got you babe I got you babe

Let's Have A Quiet Night In

Tonight, tonight

Let's not go anywhere

Let's turn the latch on the door

And if the phone should ring

Then let's just leave it

The way we have before

And let's have a quiet night in

Together

By the fireside

We can talk without anyone else

Around to hear

Let's have a quiet night home

The way we sometimes used to

Don't they say

Every night at a party

Soon wears thin

Let's have a quiet night in

Every night it seems the music plays

Voices talk too loud

I seem to lose you in the crowd

Till it's time to go

So tonight, tonight

Let's not see anyone

If the party's on

We're not free

I hardly see you now

More than a minute

So just this once for me

Let's have a quiet night in

Together

By the fireside

We can dance in the candlelight

Just as well alone

It's time for our heart-to-heart

Before I'm left behind you

Don't they say

Every night at a party

Soon wears thin

Let's have a quiet night in

We can dance in the candlelight

Just as well alone

Let's have a quiet night home

Together

Just this time.
