Set in Jubilee Year, 1935, this film stars David Soul as an American, foot-loose and fancy-free in rural Devon, where he meets Pamela McMyler as a waitress in a broken-down cafe-cum-garage miles from anywhere. He affects to be going wherever the notion takes him, whether Windsor or Hollywood , and she pretends to be in dire trouble and pregnant. It turns out that she is not in the family way at all, and he is not a free agent but committed to a stick-up attempt - the robbery of an armored truck. They get off together but fall foul of the local constabulary and become involved with a mud-wrestling contest at a fairground.... finally they take off on a motorcycle.
