This mini series, based on a novel by Ken Follet, is set in north Africa in 1942, the scene of fierce fighting between German and British troops. David Soul plays Alex Wolff, a charming, ruthless spy, serving both Germany and Egypt, a man dedicated to destroying the British. David Soul and Cliff Robertson trooped around the Tunisian desert for three months for this four-hour mini-series. First there were recalcitrant camels to cope with - one took a deep bite out of David Soul. Then there were freak storms, over-exotic food and political tensions that led to early curfews.
